FROSTBURG, Md. – Recording its eighth sweep of the 2017 season, the Frostburg State volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 victory over Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) opponent Penn State Harrisburg Friday night at Bobcat Arena.

Frostburg (14-8, 2-2) took the match from the Lions (8-10, 1-3) in set scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-21.
The Bobcats had three players hit .300 or better. Senior outside hitter Naya Cheatem led the way with seven kills, hitting .222 in the process. Senior setter Madelyn Torres added six kills and a team-high 15 assists while first-year outside hitter Gianna Carmona smacked five kills and added four digs. Senior right side Jessica Bugtong paced the Bobcats with four blocks while Cheatem and senior middle hitter Sabrina Roberts notched a pair of blocks.
Senior libero Lindsey Scepura had a team-high 14 digs, marking her 14
th double-digit dig performance this season. As a team, Frostburg finished the contest with 31 kills and 12 blocks.
In the first set, Cheatem smacked a kill to cut the Bobcat deficit to one at just 4-3. Frostburg scored five-straight points to take a 15-12 lead and never trailed for the remainder of the set. A kill from Harris put FSU up 20-13 and Torres smacked two kills for a 23-18 edge.
While neither team was able to gain much traction in the second set, Frostburg used a pair of scoring runs to seal the 25-23 victory. Frostburg scored seven-straight to take a 17-15 lead with Carmona notching three kills in the scoring run. After five-straight points from the visitors, Frostburg responded with a 5-0 scoring run of its own to take a 22-20 lead.
The Bobcats opened up an 8-3 advantage to begin the third set, led by three kills from Roberts. Sophomore middle hitter Ashante Corey-Bey took Torres' set and registered the kill which tied the set at 12. A kill from Cheatem and Harris put the Bobcats back in front 17-15 and Frostburg scored the final two points of the match for a 25-21 set victory.
Melanie Sheaffer posted a game-high eight kills and Casey Stump dished out 24 assists for the Lions.
Frostburg returns to the court tomorrow afternoon against York (Pa.) for Senior Day at 2:00 p.m.
