Johnson’s 17 Points Push Men’s Basketball Past Marymount (Va.)

ARLINGTON, VA. – Freshman guard Rhashad Johnson scored a career-high 17 points off the bench and propelled the Frostburg State men's basketball team to a 58-52 win over Marymount (Va.) in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) play at Verizon Sports Arena Saturday afternoon.

Johnson's 17 points match his career-high in scoring set earlier this year against Washington College (Md.) on November 28, 2016. Johnson went 5-of-9 (55.5%) from the field, made two three-pointers and went 5-of-6 from the foul line. The Bobcats held a decisive 28-8 advantage over the Saints in bench points.

With the win, Frostburg moves to 3-12 on the season behind a 2-6 mark in CAC play. Marymount (Va.) drops to 7-8 and 4-4 in the CAC.

Freshman guard Lawrence Pettis, Jr. added 16 points and five assists and was the only other Bobcat to finish in double-figures.

Junior center Zachary Coalmon, who currently leads the CAC in blocks per game, had six blocks on the day. This marks Coalmon's fifth game of the season with five or more blocks in a game.

The Frostburg defense allowed just one three-pointer on the day, limiting the Saints to 1-of-17 (5.9%) from beyond the arc. Frostburg went 6-of-15 (40%) from three-point range on the afternoon.

Frostburg weathered 14 turnovers and outrebounded Marymount (Va.) 50-37 on the afternoon, collecting 17 on the offensive glass. Junior guard Tyler Michael grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds, sophomore Edwin Cole had eight rebounds and freshman forward Daniel Alexander grabbed seven boards.

Junior forward Darren Campbell, coming off career-high 29 points last game, began the contest with two consecutive three-pointers. Campbell finished the game with eight points and five rebounds.

Johnson converted a jumper with 5:15 remaining in the first half to give the Bobcats a 23-22 edge. Marymount (Va.) would maintain the lead for the final five minutes of the half before Pettis, Jr. made two foul shots and tied the game up at 33 going into halftime.

Sophomore guard Steven Glasbrenner made a three-pointer to give the Bobcats a 36-33 lead early in the second half.

Pettis, Jr. made a layup with 3:57 remaining to put the Bobcats up six points, 51-45.
