Volleyball Powers Past La Roche

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Frostburg State volleyball swept La Roche College, 3-0, in a mid-week matchup Tuesday, evening.

The Bobcats (6-8) dominated the Redhawks (3-7) in a three -set victory, 25-18, 25-23, and 25-19. FSU held the advantage in kills, 38-30, blocks, 6-3, assists, 36-30, and digs, 89-78, while La Roche totaled seven service aces to the Bobcats five.

The first set remained tied at four, before FSU went on a four-point rally to surge ahead. However, the set tied again at 11 as the Redhawks clawed their way back in the match. But it wasn't enough as the Bobcats used two three-point rallies to gain a significant advantage over La Roche to win the set, 25-18.

La Roche opened the second set with an 8-4 advantage; however that lead wouldn't last as the Bobcats scored four unanswered points to come within one, 19-18 and eventually tied the set at 22. Back-to-back kills from Parrinello and a Redhawk attack error rounded out the final three points for FSU and allowed them to take the 25-23 victory in set two.

The Bobcats quickly went up, 10-5, over La Roche in the final set, however the Redhawks scored five unanswered points to knot the game at 10. La Roche used a three-point rally to take a 16-14 lead over FSU but the Bobcats came back and out-scored the Redhawks, 7-6,  in the following points to take a, 19-18 lead.  FSU then scored the final six points of the set to win, 25-19.
