FSU Loses To #12 Swarthmore

NEWARK, N.J. – The Frostburg women's soccer team fell to 12th-ranked Swarthmore, 3-0, on the second and final day of the 2016 Scarlet Raider Soccer Classic at Rutgers-Newark, Sunday.

The loss to the nationally-ranked Garnet snapped a two-game winning streak for the Bobcats (2-3) that had won their last two games in overtime.

Marin McCoy scored all three goals for Swarthmore and it outshot FSU, 19-12. She found the net once in the first half and twice in the second.

The box score showed an even shot count in the opening half as each team attempted eight shots. The Garnet led 11-4 in the second stanza.

Juniors Melanie Bell and Lia Kelly, along with freshman Brooke Shehade each took two shots to pace the Bobcats.

Shehade and Kelly both had back-to-back shots saved by Garnet keeper Sydney Hunter in the first half. Senior keeper Karen Belteton made six, opening-half saves to keep Frostburg within one goal at intermission.

In the second half, the Garnet pulled away with two more goals.

Bell had arguably Frostburg's best chance of the afternoon as she ripped a shot that drew a diving save from Hunter at 64:00. Sophomore Rhianna Lapen played the final 45 minutes in goal for the Bobcats and she made four saves.
