Bobcats Lose At #17 Wesley

DOVER, Del. – The Frostburg State football team endured a 43-7 setback at 17th-ranked Wesley on Saturday in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener for both schools.
 
The Bobcats evened their record at 1-1 overall with the loss in Dover. Wesley jumped out to a 29-0 advantage late in the second quarter when the Bobcats found the end zone.
 
Sophomore starting quarterback Connor Cox ran in from two yards out that capped a seven-play 59-yard drive for Frostburg.
 
Senior return specialist Austin Bonsall set up the scoring drive by returning the Wesley kickoff to the FSU 41. Cox connected with junior Russell Neverdon for 12 yards on the first play of the drive and later junior running back Jordan Brown ran for 18 yards on 3rd and two that put Frostburg at the four.
 
Two plays later, Cox ran in for a two-yard score and senior Isaac Robinson kicked the extra point as Frostburg trimmed the deficit to 29-7 at the half.
 
The Wolverines (1-1) tacked on two more scores in the second stanza for a 43-7 final.
 
The Bobcats totaled 240 yards of offense against Wesley, that included a 146-yard rushing attack. Brown finished with 42 yards on five carries to lead FSU, while sophomore Rashawn Johnson added 37 yards on 12 runs. Cox rushed for 18 yards and threw for another 122 yards. Neverdon collected five receptions for 49 yards.
 
Defensively, junior linebacker Dre'Quan Reed led Frostburg with seven tackles. Senior William Sewell finished with six tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss.
 
Dan Kesack threw four touchdowns for Wesley to power its offensive attack. Alex Kemp caught two of those touchdowns, both in the first quarter.
 
The Bobcats host Southern Virginia next Saturday at 7:00 pm in an NJAC matchup.
