FROSTBURG, Md. - After being outshot 11-9, the Frostburg State women's soccer team was defeated by Bridgewater 1-0 in the 2016 season opener for both teams Thursday night at Bobcat Stadium.
 
Six of the Bobcats nine shots came in the first half of play. Keeper Karen Belteton made eight saves and Brooke Shehade led the way with five shots.
 
The only goal of the evening came from Bridgewater's Isabella Weigel off a penalty kick that found the right corner of the net at 1:11 in the first half.
 
Shehade attempted back-to-back shots in a seven-minute stretch following Bridgewater's goal, but both attempts were denied and the score remained 1-0 going into the half.
 
Frostburg tried to rally in the second half, but a shot by Anais Ventura was denied in the 67^th minute was denied. Belteton also made six of her eight saves in the second half.
 
Frostburg State will have a chance to earn their first win of the 2016 season on Sunday when the Bobcats travel to Catholic. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
