FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team fell to No. 17 York (Pa.), 16-4, in Capital Athletic Conference action Wednesday evening at Bobcat Stadium.
Juniors Molly Hart and Megan Hart both had a goal and an assist in the loss. Junior keeper Dylan Teitelbaum finished with 12 saves in the crease and scooped up a ground ball.
Frostburg falls to 4-7 overall and 0-5 in the CAC, while York improves to 8-5 and 3-3 in league play.
York opened the game with 12 unanswered goals, including three each from Melissa Meehling and Kayleigh Phillips.
The Bobcats opened the second half with a beautiful goal when Molly Hart slipped a pass to junior Emani Byrd from behind the goal and Byrd buried a shot past the Spartan defense just 34 seconds into the half.
York's Jordan Cassella took advantage of a free-position shot to bring the Spartans' lead to 13-1.
Molly Hart then gave FSU its second goal just 2:25 later, but following a Bobcat yellow card, York used the extra-man opportunity to extend its lead to 14-2.
Megan Hart and freshman Morgan Cavey had back-to-back goals to bring the game back within 10, but York added its own pair of tallies to finish the game ahead, 16-4.
Sophomore Samantha Cataldo and Cavey finished with three caused turnovers each, while Byrd caused two turnovers and scooped up two ground balls.
York's Katelyn Cattrano led both teams with five points behind two goals and three assists, while Spartan keepers Rachel Donovan and Abby Smith shared time in the crease. Smith finished with two saves.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday, April 9 when they hit the road to take on Wesley in a CAC matchup. Opening draw is scheduled for 11:00 am.
