STEVENSON, Md. – Frostburg All-American starter Greg Schneider posted another impressive outing and junior Devin Bell smacked a two-run home run to lead the sixth-ranked Bobcats to a 5-1 win over Keystone, Saturday.
Schneider struckout 14 batters in 8.0 innings, while allowing just four hits and one earned run.
The right hander opened the game in stellar fashion as he struckout the side in the first frame, along with two batters in the second, third and fourth innings. He also fanned three batters in the seventh inning, but allowed a solo home run for Keystone's (2-1) only run.
The win over the Giants is the second time in three starts this year that Schneider has struckout 14 batters. The last time he did it against Stevenson in the season opener on Feb. 19, Schneider was named the NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week.
In three starts this year, Schneider has fanned 38 hitters in 21.2 innings of work and has allowed a meager 10 hits.
Bell handed Frostburg a 2-0 cushion in the bottom of the first inning when he smacked a home run to left center field. Junior Cody Harman produced the first hit when he singled through the left side before scoring on Bell's homer.
Louis Reyes homered to right field in the seventh for Keystone's only run before FSU scored two more runs in the eighth for the 5-1 final score.
Senior KJ Hockaday was hit by a pitch, followed by an intentional walk to Bell and a walk to junior Brad Garrant to load the bases with one out in the eighth. Senior Zach Keeler drew a walk with the bases loaded that scored Hockaday and senior Connor Cooper reached on a fielder's choice that helped score Bell that capped the contest at 5-1.
Bell finished 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI behind his third home run this season.
Frostburg State returns to action tomorrow with a contest against Scranton at the Stevenson Tournament at 11:00 am.
