Baseball Takes Season Opener In Extras

THOMASVILLE, N.C. – The long awaited 2016 Frostburg baseball season arrived on Friday night and the 10th-ranked Bobcats shutout Stevenson 2-0 in 10 innings.
 
Frostburg plated both of its runs in the top of the 10th, while sophomore starter Greg Schneider and senior Nick Huff combined to strikeout 16 Stevenson batters.
 
In the top of the 10th, senior Jeremy Remalia got things going offensively for Frostburg with a single to right field. Senior Pat Sines walked, senior Teron Tyre pinch ran for Remalia and senior Jamal Windom bunt singled to load the bases.
 
Junior JT Tipton plated Tyre for a 1-0 Bobcat lead with a sacrifice fly to centerfield and two batters later, senior KJ Hockaday singled up the middle that brought home Windom for the game's second and final run.
 
In the bottom of the 10th, Huff sandwiched two ground outs around a strikeout to seal the win for the Bobcats.
 
Schneider got the start on the mound for Frostburg and fanned 14 hitters in 7.2 innings of work. He had a no hitter through five innings with at least one strikeout in each inning. He fanned two in the second and third innings before striking out the side in the fifth.
 
He struckout two more in the sixth, but Stevenson posted its first hit of the game to lead off the inning. He added one strikeout in the seventh and two more in the eighth before Huff came on in relief. Huff finished with one strikeout in the ninth and one in the 10th to earn the win in 2.1 innings pitched.
 
Trevor Fitzsimmons suffered the loss for Stevenson after he allowed both runs and three hits to Frostburg in 2.0 innings of work.
 
Frostburg returns to action tomorrow at 1:30 pm when it plays Gallaudet.
