OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Senior Jessi Martz connected on a header in the 12
th minute, but the Bobcats fell, 2-1, to grove City in the first round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) DIII Women's Soccer Championship from Mustang Stadium Saturday.
The loss ends the season for the Bobcats, who finish 10-10-1 overall.
Frostburg entered the tournament as the number four seed in region three, as part of a new format for ECAC championship tournaments.
Grove City, the team selected as the top seed in region three, scored first in the 5
th minute on a goal by Lacy Harkrader.
Martz would counter back with the Bobcats lone tally just over 7 minutes later, heading home a corner kick from freshman Brooke Shehade.
The Bobcats held a 15-9 advantage in shots and a 5-4 edge in saves. Both teams also had three corner kick opportunities.
Along with Martz and Shehade, junior Melanie Bell and freshman Jesse Dunagan registered three shots each to pace the Bobcats.
Grove City's Katherine Kouzelos would notch the game-clinching goal in the 59
th minute and put the Wolverines up 2-1.
Frostburg's best chance to tie the game came in the 79
th minute when freshman Gwen Schemm had a shot from the box saved by Wolverine keeper Trishae Winters.
Senior keeper Karen Belteton made three saves in the match.
