Frostburg Rolls In Home Non-League Tilt

FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg women's basketball finished with three starters in double figures and the Bobcats used a fourth-quarter surge to capture a 67-51 win over Penn State Altoona in non-conference action, Monday.
 
Junior Kirsten Rayner tossed in another monster outing for Frostburg with career-highs in both points (26) and rebounds (19). She did most of her damage in the second half with 17 points and 11 boards and her 19 rebounds are the most for the Bobcats since the 2009 season. Sophomore Kache Fields also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists.
 
Frostburg (3-12) led by as many as 17 points in the first half and 35-20 at intermission. The third quarter belonged to the Lions (3-12) as they outscored the Bobcats 19-14 and narrowed their deficit to 47-39 after three quarters.
 
In the fourth, Frostburg erupted with a 14-2 run that sealed the win. Sophomore Megan Kelly opened the fourth frame with a three-pointer from the corner and tacked on another moments later as Frostburg led by 14, 55-41 at 7:07.
 
Rayner sandwiched two baskets around a free throw from sophomore Adjowa Pinkrah and Frostburg built its advantage to 20, 61-41 with just over five minutes to play.
 
The Bobcats pushed their lead to 22 points twice during the closing minutes before winning by 16, 67-51.
 
Kelly finished with 12 points and two fourth-quarter three-pointers that helped Frostburg pull away late. Senior Courtney Young pulled down 10 rebounds to go along with eight points.
 
Alexis Stitt led the Lions with 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting, while Megan Wheeler led the way with nine rebounds.
 
The Bobcats return to action on Wednesday when they travel to York (Pa.) at 6:00 pm.
