BALTIMORE, Md. – Senior standout Brooke Longo scored a pair of second-half goals to lift the Frostburg State women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Alvernia on the first day of the Blue Jay Invitational on the campus of Johns Hopkins, Saturday.
After a scoreless first half that saw Frostburg (2-0) outshoot Alvernia, 13-1, the Bobcats finally broke onto the scoreboard in the opening minutes of the second stanza.
Just 4:36 into the second half, senior Erin Worthman connected with Longo for the game's first tally and a 1-0 FSU advantage.
Just over a minute later, Longo added her second goal, this time an unassisted tally. From the left side of the box, Longo drilled home a 20-yard shot into the upper right corner to give Frostburg a little breathing room at 2-0. Frostburg ended the game with a 24-2 lead in shots.
Alvernia narrowed its deficit with 5:29 left in regulation when Kayla McNamee headed home a free kick on the team's second and final shot of the afternoon.
The game belonged to Longo as she posted her second multi-goal game of her career on eight shots. Senior Page Gray earned the win in goal, needing just one save in a little over 80 minutes of action.
Frostburg returns to the field tomorrow when it plays fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins at 3:30 pm.
