#8/12 Bobcats Fall to Marymount

FROSTBURG, Md. – The #8/12 Frostburg State baseball team dropped a close 2-1 decision to visiting Marymount (Va.), Thursday afternoon at Bob Wells Field.

Both offenses were held quiet over the first two innings as Marymount (10-9, 6-5 CAC) had the first baserunner of the game in the top of the second but MU left him stranded on third as freshman Greg Schneider struck out a pair of Saints to end any scoring threat.

Frostburg (20-3, 11-2 CAC) registered the first hit of the ball game in the home half of the second as junior Zach Keeler lined a 1-0 pitch up the middle but the Bobcats couldn't capitalize and the game remained tied after two.

The Saints broke the scoreless tie in the third as Kaden Darrow scored from third on a throwing error by the Bobcats. Schneider pitched himself out of the inning but Marymount held the 1-0 lead into the sixth. The Saints tacked on another run to give the visitors a 2-0 lead on an RBI single from Brandon Berczek in the top of the sixth.

Frostburg got one run back in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 2-1. Junior Jamaal Windom doubled to right center to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a groundout by sophomore JT Tipton. Senior Ricky Castro singled home Windom but the Bobcats were held to just one run in the inning.

The Bobcats put a runner on in both the bottom of the eighth and ninth but could not get the tying run across and dropped just their third game of the year, 2-1, to the Saints.

Schneider suffered the loss on the mound despite a solid performance. The freshman tossed 8.0 innings allowing just two runs, one earned, on four hits and four walks while striking out nine Saints. Charlie DiGiulian earned the win for Marymount after going 6.1 innings and allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out three.

The Bobcats return to the diamond on Saturday as they host Penn State Harrisburg in a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader at 12:00 pm.
