Women’s Lax Cruises Past Wesley

FROSTBURG, Md. – Ten Bobcats found the back of the net as the Frostburg State women's lacrosse team cruised past CAC foe Wesley, 19-2, Saturday at Bobcat Stadium.

FSU (9-6, 3-4 CAC) was paced by senior Jessica Jones' five-point performance behind two goals and three assists. Seniors Ellie Garner (three goals, one assist), Malory Brunett (four goals), Emily Walker (two goals, two assists) and sophomore Molly Hart (three goals, one assist) all posted four-point performances in the dominant victory over the Wolverines.

Frostburg buried the first 10 goals of the contest, with Hart picking up a hat trick and both Brunett and Jones scoring two during that run.

The Wolverines (4-9, 0-6 CAC) earned tallies from Rylee Gould (9:33) and Kaitlin Brennan (8:55) to bring Wesley within eight, 10-2.

The final four minutes of the half saw goals from sophomore Taylor Mone, a man-down goal from Garner following a Wesley yellow card, and senior Jessica Norris' third goal of the season to lift the Bobcats to a 13-2 lead at halftime.

Frostburg picked up all six goals in the second half, with Garner and Brunett scoring twice each, and allowed just three shots from the visitors to earn the final 19-2 victory.

FSU led Wesley in shots (34-10), ground balls (25-15), draws (16-7), turned the ball over seven fewer times (28-21) and caused 14 of the Wolverines' 21 turnovers.
Sophomore Emani Byrd, freshman Samantha Cataldo and freshman Courtney Ridenour rounded out scoring for the Bobcats. Brunett picked up a game-high seven draws and five ground balls. Sophomore goalkeeper Dylan Teitelbaum finished the day with four saves in the crease.

Gould and Brennan paced the Wolverines with a goal apiece while goalkeeper Savannah Clough had eight saves in the loss.

Frostburg State heads to Howard Community College on Tuesday, April 14 for a 4:30 pm contest.
