CRESSON, Pa. – Three Frostburg State women's basketball players scored in double-digits as the Bobcats picked up a road win at Mt. Aloysius Monday night, 78-71.
Senior Ronje James had her fourth-straight 20-plus point game as she led FSU with 25. Senior Jasmine Walker added 19 points and seven rebounds, while junior Courtney Young chipped in 16 points and six boards.
The Bobcats (3-17, 1-13 CAC) broke out to an early 7-0 lead from a jumper by Walker and a three-pointer and a layup from James. The Mounties then kept the game close, with the lead changing four times throughout the next several minutes.
Tied at 24 with 5:16 to go before halftime, the Bobcats clawed out a quick 18-5 run in the remaining minutes, with James netting 10 of her 25 points during that run.
Frostburg State shot 51.5 percent from the field in the first half (17-for-33) to take a 42-29 lead going into the locker room.
The Bobcats held a steady lead in the opening minutes of the second half and led by as many as 20, 54-34, with 14:56 to play.
Mt. Aloysius (9-12) slowly chipped away and after a 14-4 run, brought the game within 10 with 9:20 to go. Haley Bender had eight of the Mounties' 14 points during that run.
The Bobcats were up 71-60 after a Young layup with 3:23 left on the clock, but a quick jumper by the Mounties' Abby Kulick and a three-pointer and a made free throw from Alexis Restori nipped FSU's lead to just five with 2:25 to play.
The Bobcats made five free throws in the remaining minutes, and was 16-for-24 at the line in the second half to keep the game just out of the Mounties' reach and seal the victory, 78-71.
Restori led the Mounties with 21 points and Bender added 18.
The Bobcats play host to Southern Virginia Wednesday to take on the Knights at 6:00 p.m.
