Bobcats Fall In CAC Action At St. Mary’s

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Frostburg State University men's basketball team fell in a road contest at Capital Athletic Conference opponent St. Mary's, 72-59, Saturday afternoon.
 
Frostburg senior Jabari Kamau scored the game's first basketball and classmate Tyler Campbell hit back-to-back free throws at 12:14 as the Bobcats (10-11, 6-8 CAC) kept the game close through the first 10 minutes of action.
 
St. Mary's (15-4, 12-2 CAC) answered with a quick 8-0 run for a 24-12 advantage with 8:26 showing. Junior David Patrick hit a pair of three-pointers as FSU closed the gap to seven points on each basket.
 
Following Patrick's second three-pointer with 5:56 left in the first, the Seahawks closed out the opening stanza by extending their lead to 40-24 at the break.
 
Freshman Tyler Michael hit a layup and junior Nick Smoot hit a three-pointer as Frostburg closed its deficit to 10 points, 47-37, at 13:27 showing on the second half clock. Moments later, Kamau drained a three-pointer of his own as the Bobcats trailed by 11, 55-44.
 
However, St. Mary's extended its lead back to 18, 62-44, with 6:42 to play before winning 72-59.
 
Frostburg outshot St. Mary's 38.6-36.5 percent from the floor, but the difference came out the foul line where the hosts finished 29-38. St. Mary's also finished with four players in doubles figures, behind a game-high 28 from Nick LaGuerre.
 
Junior Shawn Henson led Frostburg with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Patrick finished with 10 points.
 
The Bobcats return to action this Wednesday when they host Southern Virginia at 8:00 pm.
