Women’s Soccer Battles Rutgers-Newark To 1-1 Draw

NEWARK, N.J. – Frostburg State and Rutgers-Newark each scored in the second half, but neither was able to break the tie as the women's soccer match between the two schools ended in a 1-1 draw, Saturday afternoon.

Senior Stephanie Fazenbaker put the Bobcats (2-0-1) on the scoreboard first at 81:03. Freshman Jaci Buteau crossed the ball from the left side to Fazenbaker, who scored towards the opposite post from 10 yards out for the 1-0 advantage.
 
With 39 seconds showing on the regulation clock, Sara Ramirez scored for the Scarlet Raiders (3-0-1) and sent the contest into extra time.
 
Rutgers-Newark attempted the only two shots in both overtime frames as the game ended at 1-1.
 
FSU outshot the hosts 13-12, behind a 6-3 edge in the first half. Sophomore Nicole Gernert led the Bobcats with three shots. Senior keeper Katie Smith notched six saves, including four in the second half and one in the first overtime.
 
Frostburg returns to action tomorrow when it faces Brooklyn at 1:00 pm on the second day of the Scrlet Raider Classic.
