Bobcats Remain Perfect In CAC With Sweep Of Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Frostburg State posted its second-straight sweep in Capital Athletic Conference action by taking both games of a doubleheader at Mary Washington, Saturday.

The Bobcats (10-5, 4-0) posted a 5-0 shutout of the Eagles (11-8, 4-2) in the opener and earned a slim 5-4 win in the second contest.
 
Freshman Hannah Tavik struckout 10 batters and scattered four hits in 7.0 innings of work in game one. She set the tempo early on by fanning the first three Eagles hitters in the bottom of the first inning.
 
Offensively, freshman Emily Zengel finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored. With Frostburg ahead 2-0, Zengel added three more runs to total with a three-run home run in the third inning that plated Tavik and sophomore Renay Aubel.
 
Aubel, who drove in the game's first run in the top of the first inning, finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Sophomore Lauren Capece singled home Tavik for the second run in the opening run.
 
In the second contest, five different Frostburg State players drove in a run in the slim victory.
 
Aubel led off the second inning with a solo homer that tied the contest at 1-1. In the fourth, freshman Megan Tracey, senior Caitlin Lovend and junior Savannah Hose all posted RBI singles, while Tavik capped the inning with a bases loaded walk.
 
Mary Washington drew to within one run at 5-4 after scoring twice in the fifth inning, but Tavik allowed just one hit while striking out three in the final 2.2 innings of the contest to earn the save.
 
Bobcat sophomore starter Mary Ann Moore tossed 4.0 innings and struckout five, while allowing just two earned runs.
 
Hose, Zengel and sophomore Taylor Blevins each registered two hits to lead Frostburg.
 
FSU returns to action tomorrow at Christopher Newport at 1:00 pm.
