FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State softball team suffered a pair of losses to Dickinson, Saturday in a non-conference doubleheader. FSU dropped the opener, 4-3, and the nightcap, 16-12.
Box ScoresGame 1Game 2 Sophomore Allison Williams smacked a solo home run in the second inning and classmate Taylor Blevins plated two more runs with a single up the middle in the third inning as Frostburg (19-14) built a 3-1 lead in game one.
The Red Devils (12-20) rallied for the win with three runs in the top of the seventh inning for a 4-3 final.
Blevins finished 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Williams was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored thanks to her first home run of the season. Senior Caitlin Lovend was 2-for-3 with a run.
In the second game, the teams combined for 28 runs and 28 hits. Frostburg hit a home run in each of the first three innings and plated three runs in each frame as it tied the game at 9-9 after the bottom of the third inning. Following an eight-run third frame, Dickinson added three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings and a solo run in the sixth for a 16-10 lead. Frostburg narrowed the gap to 16-12 with two runs in the sixth inning.
Freshman Hannah Tavik drove in three runs and finished 1-for-5 with two runs scored. She blasted a three-run bomb to center in the first inning. Sophomore Lauren Capece went 2-for-5 with two RBI, a run scored and a two-run home run in the second inning. Blevins finished 1-for-3 with two RBI, a run scored and her first homer of the season in the third inning.
Frostburg returns to action tomorrow at Catholic at 1:00 pm.
