Bobcats Smack Five Home Runs In Sweep Of Penn State Harrisburg

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State softball team closed out its Capital Athletic Conference regular-season schedule with a sweep of Penn State Harrisburg, Monday. The Bobcats needed just five innings for a 14-3 victory in game one, but scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth for a slim 4-3 win in game two.

Frostburg (16-9, 8-4) smacked five home runs in the game one win and posted eight runs in the first inning. Sophomore Lauren Capece finished 3-for-4 with four RBI, three runs and two home runs. She smacked a three-run homer in the first inning and hit a solo shot in the third.
 
Junior Savannah Hose and freshman Hanna Tavik also posted big games at the plate. Hose finished a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs scored and a two-run blast in the second. Meanwhile, Tavik was 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs scored and a solo bomb to open the third inning. In the circle, Tavik picked up the win by striking out 10 and allowing just one earned run.
 
Frostburg finished the opener with 18 hits, while nine players each registered at least one hit.
 
In the second contest, Frostburg trailed 1-0 after the Lions (7-19, 1-11) tripled home a single run in the second inning. The Bobcats answered in the fourth when sophomore Taylor Blevins singled home classmate Renay Aubel.
 
In the fifth frame, Tavik doubled home Hose and senior Caitlin Lovend to give the Bobcats a 3-1 lead. Penn State Harrisburg tied the game at 3-3 when Rieley Loch homered to left center in the top of the sixth.
 
However in the bottom of the sixth, Lovend singled home freshman Megan Tracey for the winning run.
 
Sophomore Nicole Bradford tossed all 7.0 innings and surrendered just three earned runs for the victory.
 
Tavik and Blevins each finished 2-for-3 at the plate, while Tavik drove home a team-high two RBI.
 
Frostburg returns to action on Thursday in the CAC Tournament as the Bobcats will face No. 1 ranked Salisbury at noon.
