Marymount Pulls Away From Frostburg State

ARLINGTON, Va. – Frostburg State and Marymount battled back-and-forth over the first 10 minutes of action, Saturday, before the Saints eventually pulled away for an 86-67 win in CAC men's basketball action.

Bobcat junior James Peters knocked down a three-pointer at 12:45 for a 9-6 lead, followed moments later by a layup from junior Jabari Kamau as FSU led 13-12.

However, Marymount (15-8, 7-7) closed out the remaining 9:31 of the first half by outscoring Frostburg 25-7 for a 37-20 halftime lead.

In the second stanza, MU held its lead above 15 points for much of the half. Peters hit a three-pointer with 3:12 left in the game to draw Frostburg (2-21, 1-13) to within 75-60. Twenty-nine seconds later, Peters hit another three-pointer, this time to bring FSU's deficit inside 14 points, 77-63.

Marymount didn't allow Frostburg to get any closer and the hosts hit a three-pointer with 15 seconds left in regulation to set the final score at 86-67.

Peters led the Bobcats with 23 points, followed by Kamau and sophomore Nick Smoot with 12 each.

Marymount finished with five players in double figures, led by Colin Burkardt and Tucker Canary with 11 points each.

Frostburg returns to action this Wednesday when it hosts York (Pa.) at 8:00 pm.
