FROSTBURG, Md. – Christopher Newport shot nearly 50 percent from the field and earned an 85-67 win over Frostburg State, Saturday.
 
The loss snapped the Bobcats four-game winning streak and they settle at 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the CAC. Meanwhile, CNU improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the league.
 
The Captains had three players finish in double-figures, including a pair of double-doubles. Marcus Carter led all players with 26 points to go along with 12 rebounds, while Tim Daly added 21 points and 14 boards.
 
Junior Nick Smoot led the Bobcats in scoring for the third time this season with a team-high 21 points and a game-best four three-pointers. Junior Jerel Carter added 10 points and four assists.
 
Frostburg struggled from the field, shooting just 37.7 percent on 26-of-69 attempts. The Bobcats also made just 7-of-22 three-pointers.
 
Christopher Newport grabbed a double-digit lead, 24-13, with 8:50 to play in the opening half and the visitors held the lead in double figures for the rest of the contest. Hunter Wetherell had a dunk at 6:22 to hand CNU its largest lead of the opening half, 32-16. The Captains led 41-27 at the break.
 
CNU led by as many as 28 in the second stanza, but Frostburg was able to trim the lead to 14, 74-60, with 6:10 to play. However, Christopher Newport pushed it back to 20 before winning 85-67.
 
Frostburg will host Penn State Harrisburg this Wednesday at 8:00 pm.
