Bobcats Fall in Jim Crawley Championship Game

FROSTBURG, Md. – Senior Ronje' James posted her second-straight double digit effort to begin the season but it wasn't enough as Gettysburg defeated the Frostburg State women's basketball team, 60-49, to claim the 2014 Jim Crawley Tournament Crown for the second-straight season.

James posted a game-high 19 points and finished the weekend with 50 points and 13 rebounds while handing out eight assists to earn All-Tournament team honors.

The two teams went back and forth to open the game before the Bullets (2-0) pulled away with a 12-0 run over a span of seven minutes to open up a 23-11 lead with 4:44 to play in the first. A good free throw from junior Bria Jones halted GC's run but the Bullets used five unanswered points to take a 16-point lead at 28-12. Sophomore Kayla Love hit a jumper and freshman Tajaia Tillman knocked down a pair of free throws to cut the GC lead back to 12, 28-16, but the Bullets closed out the half with six-straight points to lead 34-16 at the intermission.

The Bobcats came out fighting in the second half and used a 20-9 spring to cut the Bullet lead back to single digits for the first time since early in the first half. The run was highlighted by seven points from James and six from senior Jasmine Walker.

With 6:27 left in the second, James hit her third three of the game to pull the Bobcats (1-1) within seven, 46-39, but Gettysburg answered with six straight points to push its lead back to double digits at 52-39 with 5:03 to play. James hit a pair of free throws at 4:31 to get Frostburg to within nine, but Gettysburg pulled away for the final time as the Bullets used a slim 8-6 run to close out the game at 60-49.

Walker narrowly missed a double-double with 11 rebounds and eight points. Senior Jenna Swope led the Bullets with 17 points and freshman Emily Gibbons paced the Bullets with 10 rebounds.
Frostburg returns to action when the Bobcats host Juniata on Wednesday at 5:00 pm.
