Baker Leads Bobcats to Third Place Finish

YOUNGWOOD, Pa. – Freshman Brad Baker tied his best time of the season as he led the Frostburg State men's cross country team to a third-place finish at the Aaron Slafka Memorial Cross Country Invitational hosted by Pitt-Greesnburg and Westmoreland County Community College.

The Bobcats took third out of eight qualifying teams and 13 teams overall. Baker took fifth overall as he crossed the finish line at 27:51, tying his best time for an 8,000-meter race this season.

Junior Daniil Repchenko finished 11th overall as he finished with a season-best time of 29:00. Sophomore Stanton Higham had a slight edge on the Theil runner behind him as Higham took 15th overall with a time of 29:07.6, beating out the 16th-place finisher by 3.3 seconds.

Senior Jon Stewart captured an 18th place finish with a time of 29:15, his best of the year while sophomore Colin Quinn (21st – 29:26.9) rounded out the top-five runners for Frostburg State. Greg Horning was close behind with a time of 29:42 for 22nd place.

 A group of five Frostburg State runners came in 30th-34th  as freshman Justin Herrald (30:18), juniors Ryan Hipps (30:19) and Jeremy Brown (30:25), freshman Gordon Bickerstaff (30:30) and sophomore Xavier Alvarez (30:36) ran a tight race with each other.

Junior Adam Jenkins posted a solid time of 30:52 to take 37th while freshman Ben Allston was just two runners behind with a time of 31:43 to take 39th. Sophomore Jeff Frost (43rd – 32:16), freshmen James Kirk (45th – 32.20) and Steven Spitzer (59th – 34:40) rounded out the runners for Frostburg State.

All 16 of Frostburg State runners posted a season-best time for an 8,000-meter race.

After a week off, the Bobcats return to action when they travel to Frederick, Md. to compete in the Hood College Open on Saturday, Oct. 18.
