Men’s Basketball Suffers Home Defeat to Christopher Newport

FROSTBURG, Md. – Junior Jabari Kamau scored 15 points to lead Frostburg State, but Christopher Newport proved too strong in the second half for a 84-41 win, Saturday.

Kamau scored nine of his 15 points in the first half as the Bobcats (2-15, 1-8) hung tough and trailed just 31-20 at intermission.

In the second, CNU (12-4, 5-3) came out strong and outscored Frostburg 53-21. The Captains rode a 70.8 shooting percent (17-of-24) and 14 free throws for the win.

Besides Kamau's 15 points, FSU struggled at times to score. Junior Torrell Goodman finished with seven points, while senior Aaron Bellamy added five. Frostburg shot just 25.9 percent (14-of-54) from the floor and was outrebounded 38-32.

Tra Benefield and Mike Cherry led CNU with 23 points apiece. Cherry fueled the second half surge from the visitors with 18 points and four three-pointers.

The Bobcats returns to action this Wednesday at Mary Washington at 8:00 pm.
