MARIETTA, Ohio – The Frostburg State women's volleyball team walked away empty-handed at the Marietta College Tournament after dropping two matches to host Marietta and Grove City, Saturday.
The Bobcats (1-7) fell behind to the hosts in three sets with scores of 25-8, 25-14 and 25-16. The Bobcats posted 22 kills and 36 digs. Sophomore Aimee Petrides led with nine kills and five digs. Senior April Wolfe contributed 11 digs while sophomore Morgan Hoover added seven kills and a service ace.
In the final game of the Marietta Tournament, the Bobcats battled Grove City to five sets. The Bobcats opened strong and took the first set with a score of 25-19. The Wolverines answered back, winning back-to-back sets, 25-18 and 25-15. The Bobcats rebounded and took the fourth set, 25-23 to knot the match at 2-2. However, it was Grove City that took the final set 15-10 to end the match.
Collectively, the Bobcats had 44 kills and 10 services aces against Grove City. On the defensive side of the ball, FSU totaled 79 digs and seven blocks.
Petrides finished off a solid performance by contributing 16 kills and 22 digs. Senior Jamie Frank donated 18 digs and eight kills. Sophomore Caitlin Collins continued her serving prowess by collecting five service aces. Collins totaled 11 services aces throughout the tournament.
The Bobcats travel on Wednesday, September 11th for 7:00 pm match against Penn State Altoona.
