Bobcats Rebound In Home Opener

FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State scored a pair of first-half goals en route to a 3-0 shutout of Washington & Jefferson in the Bobcats home opener, Tuesday night.

FSU (1-1) rebounded from a 4-0 season opening loss to Catholic, with a dominating effort against W&J (0-2). Frostburg outshot the visitors 10-2 during the crucial first half.

Less than six minutes into play, the senior tandem of Stephanie Fazenbaker and Adria Graham connected for a 1-0 FSU lead. Fazenbaker found Graham inside the 18-yard box for a goal inside the right corner of the net.

Frostburg struck again in the 40th minute when senior Kyrsten Buck fed a corner kick to sophomore Chelsie McCoy, who popped the ball over a diving keeper for the game's second goal and a 2-0 edge at the half.

Frostburg led just 7-6 in shots in the second half, but added to its lead at 75:33. Sophomore Erin Worthman found a streaking Fazenbaker, who's left-footed shot ricocheted off the left post and found the net for the Bobcat 3-0 lead.

Sophomore Katie Smith stopped five shots for her first win of the season behind four saves in the second half. President keeper Morgan Kinyon made seven saves while suffering the loss.

The Bobcats return to action on Saturday at Gettysburg at 7:00 pm.
