FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State field hockey team was a train that could not be stopped as they shut out Sweet Briar 7-0, Wednesday evening.Â

The Bobcats (4-5) struck early and often, which gave them a 6-0 advantage over the Vixens (1-6) heading into halftime. The hosts led in both shots (27-9) and penalty corners (14-5).Â
Sophomore Alexandra Darrow started the scoring tangent at 4:14 off a penalty shot. The 1-on-1 action was no match for Darrow who confidently stepped up and knocked down the first score of the evening.Â
About two minutes later, sophomore Ashley Johnson wound up for a shot, but it was classmate Jackie Best who found herself in a perfect position for the deflection that put the Bobcats up 2-0.Â
Five minutes later, senior Becky Randel got involved in the scoring action off an assist by Best at 10:06. Best scored her second goal of the game at 11:33 for a 4-0 advantage for the hosts.Â
The Bobcat forwards continued to power the game as Darrow scored her second goal of the game at 16:06 from an assist by Becky Randel, who put the ball into play from a penalty corner.Â
Frostburg notched its last goal of the first half from junior Katie Farr who connected with Darrow with two minutes left on the board to go into halftime up 6-0.Â
Best completed her hat trick and scored the lone goal of the second frame just 54 seconds into play. Classmate Amber McCabe recorded an assist on the final goal.Â
Best finished with three goals off five shots with an assist. Darrow completed a solid game collecting two goals while donating an assist.Â
Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Grimm needed just one save to grab her fourth win of the season. Backup goalie Jacqueline Gover manned the cage in the second half, tallying three saves to preserve the shutout. Freshman Alisha Saloman and sophomore Emma Wade both collected a defensive save.
