Top 10: No. 10 - Men's Basketball vs. Salisbury

FROSTBURG, Md. - A last-second buzzer beater against a rival doesn’t get any more exciting. The only problem, the buzzer beater handed the Frostburg men’s basketball team a 71-70 overtime loss to in-state rival Salisbury. However, the game featured plenty of excitement and opens the countdown at No. 10.

On FSU’s senior day, Christian Jackson and DeSean Antoine combined for 55 of the team’s 70 points, including nine three-pointers. In the end, it was Salisbury senior Travon Vann that collected his own missed layup and converted the putback as time expired that gave the visitors the one-point win.

Frostburg State shot 50.0 percent (22-of-44) from the floor and 50.0 percent (11-of-22) from beyond three-point range. Defensively, FSU held Salisbury (16-7, 7-3) to just 34.9 percent (22-of-63) with just five three-pointers.

Jackson scored nine of his points in the final five minutes of regulation and Antoine hit a huge three-pointer as the duo helped propel the Bobcats back into the game after trailing by nine points (56-47) with 5:28 to play.

With 12 seconds left in the second half and with Frostburg trailing by two, Jackson drove to the baseline and drew a foul while trying to convert a tying layup. He calmly knocked down both free throws to knot the contest at 61-61.

In overtime, Salisbury opened a pair of two-point leads before Antoine hit his final three-pointer with 3:19 to play that gave FSU a one-point cushion, 66-65. It was Frostburg’s first lead since an Antoine three-pointer gave the hosts a 41-40 lead with 12:17 left in the second half.

Salisbury answered with a layup for a 67-66 lead and Vann connected on another layup with 1:28 showing on the clock that gave SU a 69-67 advantage.

Freshman Royce Hunsberger had FSU’s answer with a monstrous three-pointer on the ensuing possession that regained the lead 70-69 with just under a minute to play. The home crowd erupted with a thunderous applause.

After missed baskets by both sides on each of their next possessions, Vann collected the inbounds pass in front of the Bobcat bench with seven seconds to play. He raced to the opposite end of the floor before hitting the game winner.

Jackson finished with 36 points, just two shy of his career high, and led both teams with 11 rebounds. Antoine finished with 19 points, behind three three-pointers in the second half and one in overtime.
