FROSTBURG, Md. – For the second-consecutive year, Frostburg State softball standout Caitlin Lovend has been honored by the College Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA) as a Capital One Academic All-American.
Lovend earned third-team honors for the second-straight year after carrying a 3.81 GPA in athletic training. A junior from Laurel, Md., Lovend is a five-time Dean’s List student and has twice been named to the All-Capital Athletic Conference Academic team.
One of the top hitters in the country, Lovend capped her third year as a Bobcat ranked third in the country in RBI (61), fifth in RBI per game (1.36), 18th in home runs (12), 32nd in home runs per game (.27), 40th in walks (.62), 56th in slugging percentage (.755) and 63rd in runs per game (1.07).
Lovend, a three-time First Team All-CAC selection, drove in a school record 61 RBI and was one of three players in all of NCAA Division III softball with 60 or more on the season. Lovend also tied senior All-American Taylor Vandegrift for the single-season school record with 48 runs scored.
With one year left in her Frostburg playing career, Lovend is currently the school's all-time leader in batting average (.445), walks (73) and RBI (141). She is second all-time in runs (110), hits (162), home runs (33) and total bases (286).
Frostburg State finished the 2013 season with a school record 33-12 overall record and won the ECAC South Region Tournament Title.
