FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State survived a scare in game one and powered for a six-inning victory in the second game to earn a hard-fought sweep of York (Pa.) in CAC action, Wednesday.

Frostburg (21-6, 3-1) scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 4-3 win in the opener and then exploded for a 14-5 victory in six innings in the nightcap.
Bobcat junior Caitlin Lovend hit a pair of RBI singles in the first and fifth innings to give FSU (21-6, 3-1) a 2-1 edge over visiting York through five innings of play in the first contest.
The Spartans (6-22, 2-4) tied the game at 2-2 with a solo run in the sixth and grabbed a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth after both teams failed to score in the seventh and final frame of regulation.
Facing two outs in the eighth with sophomore Bailey Ellsworth on second base, senior Shari Beavers doubled to left field that scored the tying run and kept the Bobcats alive for at least another inning. However, FSU loaded the bases following a walk and a hit batter before freshman Lauren Capece singled home Beavers for the game winner.
Lovend finished 3-for-4 with two RBI, while senior Taylor Vandegrift was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Freshman Mary Ann Moore pushed her record to 11-3, while fanning six and allowing just two earned runs in 8.0 innings.
Frostburg State fell behind 3-2 after the first inning of game two, but rallied with five runs in the third and six runs in the sixth for a 14-5 win.
Freshman Renay Aubel kick started the third inning with a solo home run to left field that tied the game at 3-3. Senior Kerri O’Malley gave the hosts the lead for good with a sacrifice fly to right. Vandegrift, the next batter, smacked a two-run double over the center fielder’s head that scored two more. Ellsworth singled home the final run of the inning as FSU lead 7-5.

Vandegrift highlighted the frame with a three-run double to left field that reached the outfield fence before Lovend crushed a two-run walk-off bomb two batters later.
Freshman Nicole Bradford allowed just two earned runs in 5.0 innings for the win that improved her record to a perfect 5-0 on the season.
The first six batters in the FSU lineup each drove in at least one run, led by a perfect game from Vandegrift. She finished 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs scored and two doubles. Ellsworth finished 4-for-5, while Lovend drove in three runs and scored two.
FSU returns to the field on Saturday when it hosts Wesley at 1:00 pm.
