FSU (7-3) started the morning with a bang, scoring a combined eight runs in the first two innings against Guilford.  The Bobcats turned in a stellar second inning, scoring five runs to finalize the score at 8-3 going into the third.

The five run spurt was fueled by junior Caitlin Lovend who blasted two-run home run and senior Shari Beavers continued the hot hitting with a home run of her own to bring in one more run.

Lovend went 3-for-4 with three RBI for the opener. Senior Taylor Vandegrift went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Freshman Mary Ann Moore snagged her third win to post a 3-2 overall record in just five innings of play.

Hot hitting continued through to the second game of the morning as Frostburg State powered past Lasell 10-4.

The Bobcats put up two in the first inning to post the score at 2-1. The Lasers countered back in the fourth with two to grab a slim 3-2 lead. The Bobcats would remain scoreless as the Lasers posted one more run in the sixth for the 4-2 advantage.

A late scoring spurt propelled the Bobcats to the win as they put up eight runs in the seventh inning. FSU scored two runs as Vandegrift and Moore crossed the plate from a single by sophomore Bailey Ellsworth and a fielding error.

Freshman Renay Aubel and Beavers then slammed back-to-back home runs to bring home a total of three runs.

The scoring kept on coming as senior Megan Butzner powered a double and was brought home by yet another double, this time from freshman Taylor Blevins.

Vandegrift and Ellsworth brought two more batters across the plate with two singles to close out the eight-run inning and to post the final score at 10-4.

Aubel finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and a walk. Vandegrift and Lovend both finished 2-for-4 with a walk a piece.

In seven innings of play, Beavers took home her fourth win of the season, (4-1), with seven strike outs.

The Bobcats meet Guilford again on the second day of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Break Tournament at 9:30 am on Mar. 20. Later in the afternoon, FSU faces Rutgers-Newark for a 1:30 pm contest.
