FSU Falls In Consolation Game of 11th Annual Jim Crawley Tip-Off Tournament

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's basketball team fell to No. 18 ranked William Paterson, 86-65, despite a game-high 25 points by junior Simone Wise and a 19-point performance from senior Elaina Hummel. The Bobcats fell to the Pioneers in the consolation game of the 11th Annual Jim Crawley Tournament, Saturday afternoon.

A fast-breaking, quick Pioneer team came right at the Bobcats, stringing together an 8-0 run within the first two minutes. A three-point play a minute later left the visitors with a 15-4 advantage at 17:08.

Two long balls from Wise and Hummel helped the Bobcats hone in on the gap, 17-10, at 15:55. William Paterson's Kristine Jackiewicz kept the Bobcats at bay with a midrange jumper two minutes later to keep a nine point lead.

The Bobcats brought the game within five at 13:58 off a foul shot by Wise, a jumper from Hummel and sophomore forward Courtney Young capped FSU's effort with a long-range ball to post the score at 21-16.

The Pioneers refused to relinquish the lead as they continued to put points up on the board as they held a double-digit lead through the duration of the first half.

FSU and William Paterson were almost even in second half scoring as the Pioneers held a slim 31-30 lead. However, the Bobcats couldn't overcome the double-digit deficit from the first half as the final score read 86-65.

William Paterson held a steady advantage in points off turnovers (28-17) and points in the paint (66-24), but couldn't get a grasp on the long-range game as they failed to net a three.

The Bobcats had trouble with the long range game in their season opener yesterday, but bounced back to net six three-pointers against William Paterson.

Wise posted her game-high 25 points off an 11-for-19 afternoon from the field (57.9%). She also contributed two assists, four steals and a blocked shot.

Hummel's 19-point effort this afternoon, coupled with her 21 points on Friday night secured her a spot on the 2013 Jim Crawley All-Tournament Team. She also included a 7-for-10 performance from the foul line, five assists and two steals.

Young led the Bobcats in the paint, seizing eight rebounds while adding in seven points and two assists.

The Pioneer's posted three players with double-digits. Floriana Borova tossed in 17 points and six assists while Maya Harris contributed a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Dana Jeter poured in 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists, four steals and four blocks.

In the championship game, Gettysburg was crowned the 11th Annual Jim Crawley Tournament winners after defeating King's College 63-47.

Frostburg State returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 20, as they travel to non-conference opponent Juniata for a 6:00 pm contest.
