Bobcats Suffer Narrow CAC Loss

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – After a scoreless first half, the Frostburg State women's soccer team allowed a late second-half goal to suffer a 1-0 defeat to Capital Athletic Conference St. Mary's (Md.), Wednesday afternoon.

Frostburg now stands at 5-6-1 overall, 2-1-1 in the CAC while St. Mary's improves to 3-7-3 and 2-1-0 in the conference.

After 85 minutes of scoreless action, senior midfielder Johanna Rambo chipped a shot over FSU goalkeeper Katie Smith, to score the game-winning goal at 86:23.

Senior forward Adria Graham served as the Bobcats' last chance to tie up the game; however her shot missed wide with just nine seconds left in regulation.

FSU had opportunities throughout the game, including two late first half attempts by senior midfielder Courtney Mack. Five separate Bobcats tallied at least three shots during the game.

Frostburg outshot St. Mary's 9-5 in the first half and 13-6 in the second. The Bobcats also had nine total shots on goal compared to the Seahawks' four.

Smith racked up three saves while Seahawk keeper Kelsey Wirtz notched eight saves to grab her second win of the season.

Frostburg caps its third contest of a three-game conference road trip at Christopher Newport on October 12th at 1:00 pm.
