Bobcats Play to Scoreless Draw Against Spartans

YORK, Pa. – The Frostburg State women's soccer team was unable to find the back of the net Saturday as its match with York (Pa.) ended in a 0-0 draw.

The Bobcats (5-5-1, 2-0-1 CAC) remained unbeaten over their last four matches with the tie, as well as undefeated in the Capital Athletic Conference. The draw left the Spartans at 6-3-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the CAC.

York held a 9-4 advantage in shots in the first half, but it was Frostburg who nearly took the lead right before the break. In the 45th minute, senior forward Adria Graham beat two Spartan defenders and struck a shot that York goalkeeper Melanie Glessner deflected off the post, but the ball fell to Glessner who put it out of bounds.

Meanwhile, FSU held a 10-6 shot advantage in the second half, but it was York's Jordan Neilheiser who was denied by the post this time as she attempted to score a late winner for the Spartans in the 88th minute.

After regulation and two ten-minute overtimes, neither team could find a goal and the game ended in a scoreless 0-0 draw.

Bobcat goalkeeper Katie Smith finished the game with five saves, while Glessner finished with six for the Spartans.

York held the slight edge in shots at 18-16 and corners 4-3, but Frostburg led in shots on goal 6-5. Graham and senior Courtney Mack each had four shots to lead the Bobcats. Junior Taylor Folk led the Spartans with three shots.

The Bobcats return to CAC action Wednesday when they travel to face St. Mary's (Md.) at 3:30 pm.
