FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State scored three goals in just over a three-minute span in the first half en route to a 4-2 victory over Bethany, Tuesday night.

After a scoreless game through the first 13 minutes of action, the Bobcat offense exploded for three goals over the next 3:31 to grab an insurmountable lead.
Junior Courtney Abell scored the first of her two goals in the contest off a rebound at 13:03 that grabbed a 1-0 lead. Moments later, the Bobcats (7-13) drew a penalty corner that led to their second goal. Senior Becky Randel slid the corner pass to sophomore Alexandra Darrow, who blasted a shot into the cage for a 2-0 lead at 15:16.
The third and final goal of the flurry came at 16:34 when senior Amanda Lennon passed the ball to Randel, who flicked a shot over the keeper for a 3-0 cushion.
Despite not finding the net in the first half, the Bison (2-11) held a 12-8 lead in shots and a 6-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Bobcat starter Megan Grimm made seven first-half saves, while both senior Tori Suess and sophomore Alisha Salomon each posted a defensive save to keep Bethany off the scoreboard.
Abell opened second-half action with her second goal of the game, this time just 2:44 into play to lift FSU to a 4-0 edge.
Bethany added a pair of goals in the 52nd and 58th minutes to narrow the deficit, but the Bobcat defense buckled down and kept their lead at 4-2 until the final horn.
Frostburg finished the contest with four goals on just 13 shots, while Bethany scored twice on 22 attempts. Grimm finished with nine saves in just 51:43 of action.
Frostburg State now awaits a possible berth in the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament following league play that concludes on Wednesday evening.
