FROSTBURG, Md. – Despite two overtimes that totaled 110 minutes of action, neither Frostburg State nor Salisbury could find the net as the Capital Athletic Conference matchup between the two schools ended in a 0-0 draw, Saturday.
Box Score
Both sides had excellent opportunities to score, but unlucky bounces and key goalkeeper saves kept the contest scoreless. The game was also a rematch of last year's CAC Tournament Championship game that ended in a tie before being decided on penalty kicks.
Frostburg State (6-7-2, 2-2-2) had a pair of scoring chances late in the opening half. Junior Stephanie Fazenbaker had two shots turned away by SU keeper Michelle Conrad at 37:02 and 43:13.
Just the like the first half, the best offensive chances for FSU and SU came late in the second half.
The Sea Gulls (7-4-1, 2-1-1) had two point-blank chances late in the second. Julie Dannenberg attempted a shot (82:15) toward the right side of the goal, but Bobcat keeper Katie Smith made a sprawling save to her left to knock the ball out of bounds. Just 11 seconds later, Casey Arnone flicked a header on goal past Smith, but the ball was cleared away from the goal line by freshman Nicole Gernart.
With 1:47 left, the host Bobcats had final chance in regulation. Senior Adria Graham received a pass up the middle of the field and she broke away from the defender. Her ensuing shot floated over the outstretched arms of the keeper, but smacked the crossbar and ricocheted back into the field of play.
Both teams attempted just once shot apiece in both overtime sessions. Sophomore Brooke Longo had a long, left-footed shot sail towards the net with 19 seconds left in the first overtime, but Conrad made a jumping save to keep the score at 0-0.
Smith made three saves for the Bobcats, while Conrad made six saves in 65 minutes of action Alesha Seifert played the second half for Salisbury and stopped three shots.
FSU held an 18-11 advantage in shots and an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.
The Bobcats returns to action next Saturday when they travel to Mary Washington at 1:00 pm.
