Bobcats Surrender Late Goal In Loss At CNU

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Frostburg State women's soccer team dropped a crucial Capital Athletic Conference matchup to Christopher Newport, 2-1, Saturday afternoon.

Box Score

The Bobcats drop to 5-7-1 and 2-2-1 in the CAC while the Captains improve to 9-2-1 overall and remain unbeaten, 3-0, in the conference.

Frostburg started the game off strong, finding the net within three minutes of play. Senior midfielder Courtney Mack got possession during a breakaway and took advantage of a 1-on-1 situation with the Captain goalkeeper Haley Casanova. Mack scored her second goal of the season and put the Bobcats on the board at 1-0.

However, the height of the moment wouldn't last long, as a mere 34 seconds passed before the hosts made the equalizing goal. CNU's Carly Utterback scored off a cross to knot the game, 1-1, at 3:44.

The game remained tied until late in the second half. As time dwindled down, both teams fought to grab the 2-1 edge.

Sophomore Erin Worthman and senior Stephanie Fazenbaker had back-to-back opportunities in the 63rd minute of the contest, but both were shielded by Casanova.

At 79:17 the Captains' scored the game-winning goal from senior Emma O'Reilly. O'Reilly is currently tied for second in the conference with Fazenbaker as each has notched 10 goals this season.

CNU led in shots (22-9) and corner kicks (9-2).

Junior Bobcat goalkeeper Katie Smith totaled 11 saves while Casanova needed just five in the win.

Frostburg returns to action this Wednesday as it hosts Southern Virginia at 7:00 pm.
