FROSTBURG, Md. – Senior DeSean Antoine swished a deep three-pointer from well beyond the top of the arc to send Bobcat Arena into an excited frenzy. And that was one of numerous headlines as Antoine’s three lifted Frostburg State to an 87-84 victory over Southern Virginia, Tuesday.

Box Score

Antoine hit two huge three’s in the second half and the Bobcats (8-12) overcame a two-point first half deficit (37-35). FSU also shot 55.6 percent from the floor in the second half and needed every possession for the victory.

The first half featured eight lead changes and five ties, but the second half featured all the excitement. Frostburg built two second-half leads of 10 points and watched as the Knights (11-4) battled back each time. FSU led by nine points just past the midway point but SVU quickly cut the deficit to three, 58-55 at 7:27.

A quick 7-0 jolt had the Bobcats up 10, 65-55 with 6:13 left. Moments later, Frostburg led 67-57, but Southern Virginia responded quickly and cut the deficit to four, 69-65, with 4:41 showing.

Antoine hit a corner three-pointer in front of the Bobcat bench to end the SVU surge and put the hosts back up seven, 72-65. However, the momentum was short lived as the Knights cut it to three, 74-71 with 2:40 to play.

From that point on, the two squads seemingly traded baskets on each possession as the Bobcats tried desperately to pull away. Frostburg pushed its lead to five points several times in the closing minutes, but SVU answered with a basket of its own to keep the game at one possession.

With Frostburg up four points, 83-79 with 41 seconds left following a sophomore Jabari Kamau free throw, SVU’s Jonathan Jacobson hit a three-pointer that pulled the visitors to within one, 83-82.

A Bobcat free throw and a Knight layup with 13 seconds left setup Antoine’s game-winner.
