FSU Loses Thriller To Mary Washington

FROSTBURG, Md. – Three players scored in doubles but a fierce Frostburg State rally came up just short as the Bobcat men’s basketball team fell 65-60 to Mary Washington in CAC action, Saturday.

Box Score

A pair of second half runs, one by each team, excited the home crowd and had Bobcat Arena shaking and FSU used that energy (7-12, 2-5) to collect an 11-0 run that pulled the hosts to within two, 58-56, with just 3:00 left.

Behind some late free throws, Mary Washington was able to push its lead back to eight, 65-57, with just 13 seconds left. The Eagles (8-11, 3-4) opened a 13-point second half lead, 58-45, thanks in large part to a 12-0 run that took just under four minutes midway through the stanza.

Senior Christian Jackson led all players with 19 points, including 12 in the second half. Senior DeSean Antoine contributed 14, while freshman Royce Hunsberger came off the bench to add 10 behind a pair of three-pointers.

As a unit, the Bobcats shot 40.8 (20-of-49) percent from the field and both teams made six three-pointers. However, FSU was outrebounded 41-29 and UMW held an 18-6 advantage in second-chance points.

Bradley Reister and Sean Armstrong each scored 17 points to pace the Eagles offensively. Armstrong and Dylan Farinet led the way with nine rebounds apiece as Mary Washington avenged an earlier season loss to FSU, 78-72.

FSU returns to the court on Tuesday night when it hosts future CAC opponent Southern Virginia at 7:00 pm.
