The Bobcats (5-12) put up a good fight, in spite of having only one day of rest since their last game against Marymount.
Frostburg found itself down 10, 20-10, at the 12 minute mark in the first frame. Determined to cut into the Eagle lead, FSU called a timeout and right out of the huddle freshman Brionna Hall hit Elaina Hummel for a long ball to put the score at 20-13.
The Bobcats continued the team mentality and the scoring run at 10:38, when freshman forward Deara Parker connected with Hall for a jump shot to bring the score to 20-15.
After two scoreless minutes, sophomore guard Ronje’ James stole one away from the Eagles and took it the length of the court to complete the fast break to notch the game at 20-17 at 8:21. Senior Steph Straka continued the action with a jumper with yet another assist by Parker.
Bridgewater pulled away before the end of the first frame with scores from six different Eagles to go into halftime up 15, 39-24.
The Bobcats attempted to make a final push at 11:51 as they were down by 10 in the second half. Two James’ free throws and a layup put them within seven with 11 minutes to go.
Straka penetrated the paint two separate times and hit a jumper to put the score at 53-50, nine minutes left in the final frame.
Another three-ball by Hummel brought the Bobcats within one, 54-53 at 8:21 but they couldn’t take over the lead and the Eagles regained momentum to notch the final score at 70-59.
Straka finished with 16, including a 47% performance from the field. She also added five steals and four rebounds. Hummel contributed 15 while James pitched in 12.
The Eagles were led by Jessica Mullen who scored a game-high 24 points and seven steals. Cassidy Burkholder helped with 16 points while Morgan Holly added 12.
FSU returns to action on Wednesday, January 23 when they travel to face non-conference opponent Mount Aloysius at 7:00 pm.
