FSU tied the first set at 24 before the Spartans rattled off two-straight points to take the first set, 26-24. The Bobcats came out in the second set and battled their way to a 25-21 set victory to even the match at 1-1.
Frostburg took a 2-1 set lead after a 26-24 win in the third. As the Bobcats did in the first game of the match, the Spartans tied the set at 24-24 but it was the Bobcats this time that scored the final two points of the set to take their first set lead of the match.
In the fourth and final set of the match, the Bobcats were down 17-15 before a kill from sophomore Morgan Hoover and a misplay by the Spartans tied the game at 17-17. YCP and FSU exchanged three more points to tie the game at 19 before Frostburg pulled away. With the score knotted, the Bobcats used two straight attack errors from York to take a 21-19 advantage. YCP’s Alison Dorsey collected her ninth kill of the game to bring the Spartans to within one, 21-20, but that would be as close as York would come to Frostburg.
After a Bobcat attack error brought the score to 24-21 in favor of the Bobcats, sophomore Andrea Armstrong pounded home her sixth kill of the match to secure the victory for the Bobcats and close out the decisive set, 25-21.
Freshman Aimee Petrides led the Bobcats with 10 kills while sophomore Kass Greis handed out 20 assists. Armstrong’s 23 digs led all players with sophomores Maddie White(20) and Jamie Frank (15) each hitting double digit dig marks, as well.
The Bobcats return to action when they host Penn State Altoona at Bobcat Arena on Sept. 27 at 7:00 pm.
