Volleyball Loses Two at NYU Tournament

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Frostburg State volleyball team was defeated by Haverford and NYU on the second day of the New York University Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats (1-16) fell to Haverford for the second time of the season. The Fords earned a 3-0 shutout victory behind scores of 25-11, 25-22 and 25-17.

Freshman Aimee Petrides led FSU with seven kills and three digs. Sophomores Morgan Hoover and Maddie White earned five kills a piece and contributed six and 13 digs, respectively. Senior Chelsea McClosky tossed out 12 assists in the loss to the Fords.

In the second match of the day, FSU was defeated by host NYU 3-0. The Violets captured all three sets with scores of 25-19, 25-20 and 25-16. NYU swept all three of its matches of the weekend and earned first place in the NYU Violet Classic Tournament.

For the Bobcats, it was Petrides who again led with eight kills and six digs for a total of 21 kills and 12 digs for the weekend. White tossed in seven kills and digs for a combined total of 20 and 33 for the tournament.

Sophomore Kass Greis earned All-Tournament honors for her impressive 49 assist total for all three matches. She tallied 29 in the match against Susquehanna, nine against Haverford and 11 in the NYU match.

Frostburg hosts its home opener on Tuesday, September 25 at 7:00 pm against conference opponent, York (Pa.).
