Stevenson Downs Field Hockey 3-1

FROSTBURG, Md. - Three seperate players scored for Stevenson as it defeated Frostburg State 3-1 in field hockey during a rainy afternoon on Tuesday.

The Bobcats were unable to score in the first half despite having 10 attempts. Stevenson took advantage in the first half by a goal from senior forward Kaitlyn May in the 34th minute of play.

Less than five minutes later, the Mustangs struck again with their second goal of the contest when freshman Karen Mata came up from her defensive position to put the score at 2-0.

At 48:50, Frostburg found its only goal of the game when senior midfielder Rachel Merritt sent a sharp assist to classmate Alli Elliott for her fifth goal of the season. It was Stevenson who earned the last score of the afternoon with a goal by sophomore defender Ariella Hopp who scored off a penalty corner at 57:26.

The Bobcats had the advantage of total shots in the contest over Stevenson 24-21, but only connected with one of 14 shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Maggie Edwards collected 13 saves in the loss to the Mustangs.

Frostburg returns to action on Thursday when it hosts Hood at 5:00 pm.
