Volleyball Drops Pair on First Day of Haverford Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Frostburg State University volleyball squad dropped a pair of matches to Swarthmore  and Susquehanna on the first day of the Haverford Invitational, Saturday.

The Bobcats (0-2) lost in straight sets to Susquehanna, 28-26, 25-12 and 25-13. The Bobcats narrowly lost in the first game but stumbled in games two and three.

Sophomore Andrea Armstrong led the team with seven kills followed by freshman Aimee Petrides and junior Victoria Veirs with four each. Sophomore Kass Greis handed out a team-high 13 assists while sophomore Maddie White posted 12 digs.

In the second match, the Bobcats lost in five sets to Swarthmore. The Garnet won the first set 25-16, but the Bobcats answered with back-to-back wins (25-21 and 25-17) for a 2-1 lead. Swarthmore then grabbed back-to-back wins of its own to close out the set (25-13 and 15-8).

White turned in a double-double with 15 digs and a career best 16 kills. Armstrong added eight kills and five digs, sophomore Jamie Frank registered 19 digs and Greis again led with 19 assists. Senior Chelsea McCloskey chipped in 13 assists.

Frostburg State returns to the court tomorrow with a match against Haverford at 10:00 am and a second match with No. 10 ranked Juniata at noon.
