Lovend Garners NFCA First Team All-Region Honors

FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State sophomore standout Caitlin Lovend continues to collect postseason honors as she was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III All-Atlantic Region First Team, Monday morning.

NFCA All-Region Teams

Lovend joins 14 student-athletes on the All-Atlantic Region team, including four players from the Capital Athletic Conference.

The all-region honor is the third postseason award for Lovend in the last two weeks. She was selected as a First Team All-CAC selection and was named a Capital One Academic All-District honoree.

Lovend, the fifth NFCA All-Region player in the history of the FSU softball program, led the CAC in batting average (.496), RBIs (49), home runs (13), total bases (109), on-base percentage (.573) and slugging percentage (.886). Those numbers also translated into an impressive national resume as she is third in NCAA Division III in home runs, sixth in on-base percentage, ninth in slugging percentage and home runs per game (0.32) and 13th in batting average.

In just two seasons as a Bobcat, Lovend is currently the school’s all-time leader in career batting average (.453) and slugging percentage (.804). She is second all-time in school history with 21 career home runs, fourth with 79 RBIs and fifth in total bases (181), walks (45) and putouts (462). This spring, Lovend set FSU single-season marks in RBIs (49) and hits (61).

Lovend helped the Bobcats to a 23-18 overall record this past season including a second-straight appearance in the CAC Championship game.

Erika Brittingham, Michelle Gravdahl, and Hannah Mills represent CAC Champion Salisbury on the all-region first team and are the most selections from one team. Christopher Newport, Roanoke, Ferrum and Virginia Wesleyan all had two players selected, while Wesley’s Ashlyn Booth rounds out the CAC honorees named to the All-Atlantic Region first team squad.

All-members of the All-Atlantic Region team are eligible for the NFCA All-American team that should be announced last this week.
