SALISBURY, Md. - Sophomore first baseman Caitlin Lovend hit two home runs and drove in four to help lead the Frostburg State softball team to an 8-2 win against Wilkes on the first day of the Salisbury Invitational.
Lovend’s two homers give her five in the team’s first six games. She hit eight last season as a freshman.
Junior center fielder Taylor Vandegrift went 2-for-4 with three runs scored as senior pitcher Lauren Scrivener picked up the victory. Junior Shari Beavers went 3-for-4, and freshman Amanda Hennessee went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
The Bobcats (2-4) lost their second game of the day to Christopher Newport, 11-0. Junior Megan Foy doubled, while junior Megan Butzner and sophomore Emilee Ray each singled.
Frostburg plays Susquehanna at 10:00 a.m. and Baruch at 2:00 p.m. on the second day of the Salisbury Invitational.
