FSU Handles York; Advances to CAC Championship

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State University women’s soccer team scored three goals in a little under nine minutes of action in the first half en route to a 3-0 shutout win over York (Pa.) in the CAC Tournament semifinals, Thursday afternoon.

The victory lifts the Bobcats to 14-3-1 overall while the Spartans settle at 8-3-7. The win propels FSU into the CAC Championship game this Saturday at top seed Salisbury at 1:00 pm.

After a little over 20 minutes of scoreless action, the Bobcats, winners of six-straight contests, exploded for three goals in a nine-minute stretch for a commanding 3-0 lead.

FSU struck first at 21:22. Sophomore Stephanie Fazenbaker hit a ball through the 18-yard box to junior Adria Graham who flicked a low shot into the left corner of the net for the 1-0 edge.

A pair of freshman connected for the second goal of the opening half for a 2-0 lead. Erin Worthman found Brooke Longo for a loose ball goal off a rebounded shot directly in front of the net.

Graham scored her second goal at 30:11 to accent a wild burst of action. Senior Liz Seligman hit a corner kick into the 18 where classmate Erin Proctor headed the ball directly to Graham for the double assist.

The Bobcats held a commanding 18-4 lead in shots and kept York off rhythm for much of the match. Frostburg sophomore keeper Katie Smith needed two saves for the win. Spartans goalie Melanie Glessner stopped eight shots in the loss.
