Volleyball Splits With Bridgewater and Goucher

TOWSON, Md. - The Frostburg State University volleyball team earned a split on the second day of the Goucher Invitational on Saturday. The Bobcats (5-21) fell to Bridgewater during the first match of the day 3-0, while defeating host Goucher 3-2 in the afternoon.

In the first match, the Bobcats were defeated by Bridgewater by set scores of 25-10, 25-18 and 25-19.

Sophomore Morgan Hoover led Frostburg with seven kills while classmate Maddie White added six kills and nine digs. Freshman Aimee Petrides also contributed six kills and four digs. Sophomore Kass Greis distributed 19 assists and two digs while freshman Caitlin Droz provided ten digs in the loss to the Eagles.

In the second and final match of the day for the Bobcats, Frostburg defeated Goucher in five sets. Frostburg took the initial advantage against the Gophers 25-13, but the hosts countered back 25-23 in the second frame. The Bobcats took the third 25-21 but Goucher tied it back up with a 25-23 win to take it into the fifth and final set. It was the Bobcats who came out victorious with a decisive 15-10 win to put the final score at 3-2.

White found her second double-double of the weekend with 16 kills and 29 digs. Hoover posted 17 kills and two blocks while Petrides tallied 13 kills. Sophomore Andrea Armstrong contributed eight kills and 14 digs while Droz registered a career high 18 digs. Freshman Rachel Ober also helped a Frostburg rally with an impressive five service aces.

The Bobcats returns to action on October 16 to face Penn State Berks in Reading, Pa. at 7:00 pm.
