Volleyball Drops two at Catholic Tri-Match

FROSTBURG, Md. -  The Frostburg State volleyball wrapped up its regular season with two losses the Catholic University of America's tri-match, Saturday afternoon.

With the pair of losses, FSU ends the regular season with an overall record of 5-28.

The Bobcats opened the afternoon with 3-1 loss to Bridgewater (Va.) by set scores of 16-25, 14-25, 25-19, 21-25.

After dropping the first two sets and falling behind the Eagles. 7-5, the Bobcats used a four-point swing to take a 9-7 lead. Bridgewater (17-14) came back to tie the set at 11-11, but FSU used a 5-1 run to take a commanding 16-12 lead and never looked back. The Bobcats held on to win, 25-19.

FSU battled back from a 17-12 deficit to take a 19-18 lead in the fourth set and force the Eagles to call a time out and after the two teams traded two sideouts to make it 20-19 in favor of FSU, the Eagles went a two three-point spurts to close out the set 25-21 and take the match.

Sophomore Maddie White led the Bobcats in the opening match with a double-double, 13 kills and 20 digs while sophomore Kass Greis handed out 22 assists. Classmates Caitlyn Droz and Andrea Armstrong each posted double-digit digs with 15 each.

The Bobcats wrapped up their regular season with a 3-1 lost to hosts, Catholic, by set scores of 11-25, 17-25, 25-16, 22-25.

As they did in the first match, the Bobcats fell behind 2-0 in the first two sets but battled back for a 25-22 win in the third to force a fourth set. FSU fought hard but could not over take the Cardinals (26-9) in the final game of the day.

The Bobcats return to action when they visit Mary Washington for the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 20. The first serve is set for 7:00 pm.
